Dear Friend,
My 4th running of the Boston Marathon will be a very personal
journey, as well as an opportunity to help children. August of
2006 I was stricken with Paget-Schroetter Syndrome, a relatively
uncommon condition causing a total shut down of my vein. After 4
months of being in and out of hospitals, surgery at Johns
Hopkins, and 3 months of rehab, I am now training for this
year’s Boston Marathon.
To share my fortune of good health, I am supporting a local
charity, Youth Enhancement Services (Y.E.S), a non-profit
corporation providing FREE services to improve the lives of
children with emotional, devel opmental,
or behavioral challenges. Last year the State recognized
Y.E.S.’s outstanding contribution to children, by awarding a
$75,000 grant.
The after-school and school-vacation programs include yoga,
swimming, music, phys.ed., arts and crafts, and creating one’s
own nutritious snack. YES further supports families through a
series of parent education programs, behavioral training, and
linking to community resources. This is only possible through
grants and many volunteers. Check out their website at
www.yes4kids.com.
Perhaps you know someone who could benefit from their services.
To provide new opportunities for children with autism, ADHD,
post-traumatic stress, and other disorders, you may contribute
by mailing to me a check payable to Youth Enhancement Services
or by visiting my website at
www.emilyruns.org. All contributions, regardless of amount,
are greatly appreciated, 100% tax deductible, and will empower
children with disabilities to find, use, and express their
unique strengths and talents.
As I run the 26.2 mile course, knowing your generosity is
helping many deserving families in our local communities will
inspire me to a more meaningful and stronger finish. I do thank
you.
With gratitude,
Emily
Please make checks payable to Youth Enhancement Services and
